Joy Selby Cain
Joy has a passion for textiles and art in her blood. Growing up in Bay
Village, Ohio, she spent her time at an arts center called Baycrafters. She took
classes from preschool to college learning every medium they offered. Her mother
worked for Stretch & Sew when she was a toddler, frequently bringing her to work and
letting her touch all the fabrics. When she was in fifth grade, she visited a historic farm
and was entranced by the spinning and weaving there. She learned to spin and
weave in college.
She was gifted with an eye for patterns. Whether it is news, writing, drawing, painting or
weaving, she finds repetition in the world around her. Her painting is rich with color and
depth. She uses patterns. to bring depth to shadows and highlights in her subjects. Her
paintings and drawings include vibrant colors and ink line work.
Joy has had a long career in graphic design and web development. She has belonged
to several reenactment groups based on the Middle Ages and Renaissance, studied
Hopewell textiles and is a past president of the Central Ohio Weavers’ Guild.
